The flotation process turns out to be more efficient when the air is first dissolved into the waste water, at a higher pressure than the atmospheric one, and is then released into the flotation tank, which is kept at the atmospheric pressure. This system is called pressurised air flotation or, more commonly, dissolved air flotation (DAF).
